My first attempt at partners design

First Practise of Partners Design

In class today we had our first practise at each others makeup looks, this involved my partner Leah showing me her designs and makeup charts and explaining to me how she would like her makeup design to be done.
I started thinking about what products would work best with her skin and also did a colour match on her skin to make sure the foundation I was using matched. I decided to go with the smash box foundation I have in my kit because I felt like she had some dry patches on her face and the Charles fox foundations don’t go on very well if you have dry skin.  The only thing was the foundation I had in my kit was slightly too dark for her skin so I added some on the illamasqua white base to the foundation to match her skin colour. I used the Illamasqua primer all over the skin to make sure the foundation and the products we will be layering up on her face stay in place. I then used the foundation all over her face creating the perfect base for her design.
In her design she had a white heart shape which goes around the eyebrows and stops just above the lip. She used Illamasqua white base to create this heart shape in her design so I used the same products to create this look, I decided to make the rough shape by using a small angled brush just so I could mark out the heart shape, I then filled it in using a stippling effect to create a very airbrushed look, I then blended to edges to create a soften the outline.
After the heart shape was completed and then powdered to set it with the Illamasqua loose powder, I then moved onto the eyebrows which were white in her design I decided to do this with the supra colour from Charles Fox because its quite thick and creates a strong defined look. I then moved onto contouring which I used on the forehead because she wanted the top of the heart to be quite defined so in her design she contoured the whole of the forehead which I done using the highlight and contour palette from Illamasqua. I then went on to doing the eyes which I used the gold from the Supra colour and the gold from the Illamasqua pallet to shade in the crease and blend up towards the eyebrow, used a black mascara on the eye lashes which I built up to create a full look on the eyelashes.
On the lips I used the deep red which is from the Supra colour pallet all over the lips then got Leah to squish her lips together and then I used the Supra colour in gold across the lips to create lines on the lips.

Over all the practise went really well I executed the look quite easily and didn’t get stuck at any point which has boosted my confidence for the assessment. Next time I practise this look I think I’m going to use a slightly thicker but smaller brush to create the heart shape and maybe use more product to make it whiter in the middle so it stands out more.

Partners First Time Practising My Design

Partners first attempt at my design

I firstly talked and walked through how I created this look at home and what I used and how I used it , etc.
My partner was extremely good at listening and writing down notes so that when it came down to the real thing she had all her detailed notes of how we did everything. The first attempt went extremely well and did exactly what my design said and showed. I was extremely happy with the outcome for a first attempt, we did discuss what she would do next time to improve this which was to make the main feature of my design stand out more which is the lace print at the top of my forehead. I would like this brighter and bolder so it stands out more because I think it looks quite faded and smudged in the practise  But over all I'm extremely happy with the final outcome to my design.

Final Design Idea

Final Design

After experimenting with two other designs using face charts and practicing them over and over to get the perfect outcome I have come up with the perfect combination to what I want my design to look like. I also practised this design on my self so that I knew it would work how I wanted it too and that it creates the look and mood I’m trying to achieve.
I started looking back at my experimentation of other designs and decided that the main part of my design that I wanted to stand out the most was the lace print around the face. I experimented using white on skin colour and printing black on white base, both of these didn’t give me my desired outcome because the white blended in too much but the black took away from the delicate elegant look that lace gives off. I decided that I liked the white print on the face more that the black but I just needed a way to make it stand out more because the lace print didn’t stand out as much as I would have wanted it too.
I have planned and experimented using a red blush under the white lace print and this works extremely well because it’s enough to make it stand out without making it look over the top. Also by using the blush to make the lace print stand out you can blend it out so you don’t have any harsh lines on the forehead.
I have still stuck with my original idea by using orange on the eyes but just added other shades onto the base because it was a very matte look and the point of the orange was to really make the eyes stand out. To do this I have added a gold and copper colour to the base on the eyelid from the Illamasqua range, then on top of that worked in the Charles Fox orange and yellows.
As a high light I used the supra colour in white very gently dapping it on the tops of the cheek bones to give off a glowing look. It also gives off the effect of pale skin in this image without painting the whole face white because this is a contemporary version of the Elizabethans.
I then used the blusher, which has been used on the forehead under the cheekbones to contour, which brings the look together because it brings the colour around the face instead of leaving the bottom part bare. I think it also replicates the Elizabethan fashion where they used to use a very red blush on their cheek bones but I have used it in a more contemporary way by using it under the cheek bones to contour. I think this also goes really well with my character Bess because she always wanted to look the best even next to the queen, she would have kept up to date with the new fashion and try beat the queen at her own game.
I then carried on the theme of the orangey colours onto the lips by using the copper colour and gold colour from the Illamasqua range that I used on the eyes. I used the copper colour all over then dabbed the gold on the middle part of the lips, which creates a lovely shine.
I also stuck with the same idea I experimented with in my other designs and used supra colour in white to cover the eyelashes and eyebrows.

My main inspiration was from Corrie Nielsen with her collection in London fashion week that I researched before and made a blog post about it. I fell in love with the makeup that was with her collection it looked so beautiful and flawless under the lighting that I wanted to interpret that into my design in a way. Using the red under the lace print was inspired from that collection because it think it really makes the design pop and brights out the vibrant colour scheme.
Over all I'm very happy with my outcome of my final design and I will happily make changes if needed if my partner cant do it in time given and then I can simplify it in some way.

Experimenting With Different Colours and Ideas

Second Face Chart Idea’s

Looking back at my first design and the attempt at it I didn’t think the lace effect stood out as much as I would like it too. I decided to see if the lace would come out better in black and maybe look a bit more dramatic. I feel that the first design was slightly too soft.
In this design I also done the base white too see if that helped the orange on the eyelids stand out more.
I did exactly the same on the eyelids and the eyelashes and brows as last time, which I talked about in my last blog.
I used the black in the supra colour pallet to create the lace effect around the face. I really like this effect but I still think I like the white more because it shows lace effect better compared to using the black.
I also think using the white base takes away from the eyelashes and the eyebrows as they just blend in to the base. I think I’m going to do a normal foundation base and then build up the colour on top of that.

I’m going to experiment using the lace effect again but with a different colour under it because I really want that to stand out on the face, as it’s the main feature of my design.

Practising Final Design Ideas

Practising My Ideas…

In my first face chart I showed my first ideas of using the print of lace around the face, which would indicate that she is very wealthy because in Elizabethans days lace was very expensive. I decided to experiment with this technique to make sure my ideas worked.
I started off by buying a packet of lace paper, which has an outer edge, which looked like wild roses. This shows a lace effect, which I will be printing through. To create this effect I used my supra colour pallet from Charles Fox. This was a good product to use to print because it was thick and created definite shapes when printing, also it didn’t make the paper too soggy so you could reuse the same paper to keep printing.
My fist attempt I just done with my normal makeup underneath to just see how the print came out.

This went really well and exactly how I wanted it too look, it shows a defiant outline of the lace effect, which is perfect because if it didn’t show the lace print my design wouldn’t make sense. I also liked out I carried it on round the face and then stopped towards the bottom I think it frames the face really nicely.

The main part of my design worked so well that I decided to add to this and add the rest of the design from my first face chart. I done this by using the supra colour in orange to set a pace on my eye lid to make it vibrant and stand out. I then added on top of that with the Charles Fox eye shadow pallet. Using the four colours at the bottom from the left. Yellows and oranges to create a analogous look. Using this colour theory helped me create a very soft by vibrant look on the eyelids.
Another part of my research and designs is to make the eyes stand out to show that when you look into her eyes you can see that she isn’t royalty but far from it. By using the orange this brings out blue because they are complementary colours which means because I have blue eyes it will bring out the colour which is one of my main points.
I then had black mascara on which I don’t think looked very Elizabethan but just didn’t stand out as much as I wanted to so I decided to change the eyelashes and eyebrows to white, which really framed the face and also made the design look more dramatic.
I then used the supra colours in red and covered the lips, I then put the orange in the middle of the lips where they meet which gave a really nice effect but I also wanted to add a bit more to the design so I decided to dab on some of the gold supra colour on top of the lips, which I also another colour which represents wealth.

Supra colour- White, Orange, Red and Gold were used in this look.
Charles Fox Eye Shadows- From left to right the four Yellow and Orange colours.

Over all I really enjoyed doing this look and really love the outcome to the lace idea. I think it looked extremely elegant and pretty. The only thing I think it is missing is the dramatic effect. Bess had quite a dramatic life, which I don’t think this design shows.
I have designed to keep with the lace effect but maybe experiment in different colours so make this design slightly more dramatic.
