My First Week At University

New Learning

I learnt a lot of very important information in the first week of University but I think the most important thing I learnt was to never give up in anything you do just keep working at it. This was said by one of the makeup artists from Kryolan. I think I learnt a lot from hearing this because its very easy to give up in the beauty industry because it's so competitive, but hearing this from someone who has made it give me real hope and a drive to never give up even if i find I'm stuck or can't do something just keep at it and keep practising until you get it right. This bit of information made me look at the industry in a different light that if you put in the work and the determination then you will be on the right track to what you want.

Action To Be Taken

I was extremely nervous about my first week because I felt I may not have as much experience as some of the other people in my class because I haven't done anything to do with beauty before this. This was worrying me but when we got there they measured everyone they would be starting right from the beginning which made me relax a bit more about starting the second week which was where we started using our makeup kits and experimenting.

I really enjoyed both Illamasqua and Kryolan lectures because they went into depth about the industry and how they made it there and various ways of getting your foot in the door.
The only draw back about my first day was that we got put into groups straight away which has made it hard to get to know other people in the other groups.
I found the lectures and staff easily approachable and helpful which made the first week a lot more enjoyable.
I found it quite challenging at first to meet people because i don't live in halls which made the first day a bit daunting, however the icebreakers helped with this.

My First Week At University

My First Week At Solent University...

My first week at Solent University was packed full of exciting activities for us to experience such as ice-breakers which involved our summer projects. With the help of our mood boards we showed each other where we saw ourselves in 5 years time. This was a really good chance to get to know what each others interests are and what their previous experience was before starting University.
On Wednesday we had our first lecture which was by Illamasqua. This was a really good chance to listen to their journeys into the industry and to have a chance to ask questions about how they got to their present positions and what advice they would give to us.
On Thursday we had a visit from Kryolan who demonstrated different looks that could be achieved by using their makeup products. They also talked about their career experiences and how they got into such a competitive industry. They gave such amazing advice about how to get into the industry by saying "Don't give up after the first year if it doesn't work out the first time" and "dedication is everything" and "Take every opportunity you can, go with it". Hearing this from professionals that has made it really inspirational.
